Start of Year Newsletter
Welcome back to all pupils and parents to the 2015 / 2016 School Year. We hope everybody had a super summer and are looking forward to the year ahead.
A very special welcome to all new Junior Infants and their parents! All Junior Infant parents are invited to a coffee morning on Friday 11th September in the school from 9.15am for an opportunity to meet up. On the same morning, the school will be holding a Literacy talk for Junior Infant parents and they will be sending out a note with full details shortly.
All parents are automatically members of the Parents Association (PA). A meeting is held every term which all parents are encouraged and welcome to attend. A committee is elected every two years to coordinate the yearly schedule of events. The committee generally meets about once a month or more if a big event is being planned (eg Christmas Fair). The PA helps out at different school occasions, organises fundraising events, assists in the development of school policies and generally supports the school’s activities whenever they need us to.
Annual General Meeting
All parents are invited to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 21st September at 8.30pm in the school. At this meeting a new committee for the next term of 2 years will be elected. If you are interested in joining the committee or would like some more information about the roles available (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Public Relations Officer or Committee Member) please email us at email@example.com
The 2015 Christmas Fundraiser, as voted at the end of the last school year, will be children’s individual Christmas Cards. We will co-ordinate this with each class teacher and will send home full details in the coming weeks.
Save the Date!!! Following on from our hugely successful and enjoyable event last year, this years Christmas Fair will be held on Sunday 29th November 2015 from 12pm to 5pm. Updates will be posted on Facebook page “St. Mary’s Enfield Christmas Fair” so LIKE the page to keep informed! We are currently seeking vendors so if you are interested please take a look at our Facebook page or on the PA section of the school website for full details of how to apply or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pupil Accident Insurance
The PA arrange voluntary annual Personal Accident insurance, through Allianz, for children attending the school. Children are covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year during school and leisure time. The cost of this cover is €9.00 per child. Forms will be sent home by end September for any interested parents to complete and return.
The school facilitated a very successful Careers Day in May 2015 for children in 3rd to 6th classes. A number of parents volunteered to come in and speak to the children about their own career. Speakers included a Fireman, Journalist, Fitness Instructor, RTE Lighting Director, Chef, French Teacher and Epidemiologist. We hope to expand this to the more junior classes so any interesting job or hobby is welcome. If there are any parents, not already on our list, who would be interested in being involved in a similar event, we would love to hear from you! Please contact email@example.com with your details.
Our main methods of communication with parents are through our Facebook page or by e-mail. In addition, from this year we will be posting communications on the newly launched school website under the Parents Association section. We would encourage all parents to use this facility as it will be updated regularly by both the school and PA.
